Conventional medicine saves lives, functional medicine finds root causes. We need both but we've become reliant on one. Functional medicine is caring for your health and aiming at preventing the need for conventional medicine.

Welcome to Emily Gadd - Functional Nutrition, where I blend traditional medical expertise with holistic health practices to optimise your well-being. I am not just another nutritionist or online coach about to give you a generic plan or advise you to get 10,000 steps and weight train 3 x a week. Whilst this is valid advice, there is a lot more to getting to the bottom of what you might be experiencing. This is high end individualised nutritional advice, functional testing and overall care. 

What's Functional Nutrition?

This is, by its very essence, the ability to get to the root of your symptoms, supporting your body to heal and resolve those symptoms and understanding your genetics as part of this.  We are all unique, and this means we all respond entirely differently to specific stimulus, whether that's food, stress, alcohol or medications. 

A little bit about me. 

I started my journey into the 'health and wellness industry' as a fresh faced physiotherapist rooted firmly within western medicine in the NHS in 2014. I have always had a keen interest in 'being well' and helping others to achieve this however the more time I spent in this role the more I realised there was so much I didn't know and wanted to find out. I had limitations and road blocks to what I could achieve in the clinic room, I was seeing clients who I knew I could do more for, just didn't know how. 

On top of this I started to get my own health issues and I just wasn't getting the answers that I knew were out there. throw in the covid pandemic, the passing of my father in mid 2020, a relationship break down (my own), stress of running your own business and its no wonder my hormones and gut were in disarray! I was getting all the signs of menopause... at 31. No one knew what the answer was and I was told to just keep waiting it out. Well if anyone knows me they know I'm the least likely person to do this, so I got to solving my own issues. 

Fast forward a little while and a few additional challenging years of study on top of work and here we are. the happiest, healthiest version of my self I can hand on heart say I have ever been. I would say its taken 11 years of work but I finally feel I have found my calling and I want to share this with you.

ABOUT MY APPROACH

I am dedicated to providing comprehensive health and wellness solutions, whether you are just looking for a quick health over haul or getting to the bottom of something that's been around alot longer and is limiting your life. Are you frustrated with the lack of relief you have seen so far? Are you still having symptoms and not yet received answers or reasons why? 

 

My focus is on merging conventional medical knowledge with holistic methods and high end nutritional understanding to offer truly personalised and effective approach. I listen to your needs and goals to help in guiding you to achieve them. 

You can expect me to address the following areas: 

- Nutrition - and how to support YOUR body for the longer term

- Sleep

- Fluid intake 

- Relationships/support network 

- Functional testing 

- Elimination and detoxification methods

...and anything that comes up in between. 

What I am not - let's be clear I am not a medical doctor, I will not prescribe medications or drugs. However I do work with your doctor to achieve the best results for you. I am also not a Personal trianer, this isn't the same service that you can get from your coach at the gym and I won't provide you with 'just' a training plan. I may recommend specific forms of exercise and thats where my background works to its advantage. I can also recommend plenty of good PT's both online and in person who I am MORE then happy to work alongside. Exercise really IS for everyone. 

I may also suggest other healthcare professionals if I feel this will support your aims, these include but not limited to, transformational coach/talking therapist, psychologist, consultants and specialist doctors, acupuncturist and osteopaths.

Wellness and Functional Nutrition Packages

Deep dive into your symptoms, the potential causes and the factors contributing and how we can approach supporting you and your symptoms. Here I will go through a lengthy initial consultation to get to the bottom of what is going on. Together we set a plan and goals and aim to move forward. 

For those with a specific condition, health concern or set of symptoms to be addressed.

 

Book a discovery call - these allow me to get a brief overview of you and your health concerns before committing to a programme with me. A chance to check that you like my approach and feel comfortable working with me. Programmes require your own motivation and adherence so we need to make sure we are on the same page!

The Health Overhaul 

A one stop overhaul to set you off on the right foot

- Someone who is looking to improve and learn more about heath, wellness and longevity for the future. 

- Those who know they want to change things but find all the information confusing! 

- No specific health condition to be addressed but want to improved general wellbeing.

Deep dive into your own health and receive expert nutrition, lifestyle and wellness advice customised to your unique needs, helping you make informed choices for a healthier lifestyle.

Aimed at improving overall health without a specific condition/symptoms to be addressed or for optimising a long term conditions. 

For those interested in empowering them selves in their health journey but unsure where to start.  

This involves a thorough initial consultation where a plan and advice is tailored to you and your lifestyle. A follow up in 4-6 weeks is scheduled to cover any questions and check on progress. 

Testing and further suggestions may be discussed to consider. 

Functional Testing

Make sense of an incredibly useful and tricky area of the health industry. Get to grips with what we should and shouldn't be looking at 

Whislst functional testing is a huge area within my work, I typically may recommend this as part of another package, stand alone testing can be difficult to interpret due to it being out of context, However can provide vital additional information. 

 

It's rare that I would recommend just testing alone but if you have results that you want interpreting questions about how I may be able to help, please get in touch.
